Katie is "16"

Getting help from the little brothers

Katie opening her gift from David and I.
We got her a diamond and emerald ring.
She was super excited to get this.
So if you see her ask her to see her beautiful ring.

The happy face

Our sweet Katie turned 16 today. It is a blessed day and a sad day. Blessed because God has given us a wonderful gift in Katie, and sad because I am a Mom of a 16 year old. I am really feeling my age today. Thank you everyone for all your birthday wishes and cards she truly felt your love today.

Blessings from God

Matthias is 14 months old now. It is hard to believe that he is already walking and getting around without any help anymore. He still gets help from the older kids when he of course doesn't want their help. And one of his favorite spots is the snack drawer. Watching the bigger kids get food out he caught on pretty quickly where the good stuff is. Also he has discovered outside is so much more fun than being inside. When we open the front door he makes a bee line for the door and if he has something in his hand he tries (sometimes he is successful) to throw it outside. Maybe one day when we can trust him not to go in the drive way or the road we will let him retrieve his toy. He just gets mad when we of course do not let him play outside. What a silly little boy. But what a huge blessing from God.

Joe and Luke think it is great fun to do head stands against my living room wall. Now they have taught Justus to do the same. He has really enjoyed practicing and perfecting his skills. One day I was taking a nap and he decided he needed my pillow so he woke me up and asked if he could have my pillow so he could to a headstand. Needless to say my nap was shortened. Oh well they are only little once.
Sometimes it is hard for me to believe that they are only little once and I need to take a step back and enjoy all the times I do get to watch them grow. I am so blessed to have my five children. They are such good kids and I wouldn't trade them for quiet times and peaceful mornings. So when you look at all the dishes, messes, laundry piled up to your knees, remember that time passes so quickly and you may blink and they will be all grown. May God bless your little ones today and always. hola

Outing on the Boat 8/15/08

Friday we were able to take our family out on the boat for the first time this year. The weather has not been all that wonderful for adventures. We had some Bullwinkle's pizza and some snacks and had a really relaxing evening with the kids. Justus wasn't to sure of the boat at first but towards the end he did well and was asking "can we go on another boat ride?" Matthias did great, better than I thought he would. He roamed all over the boat. The only thing he didn't like was when the waves would come he would loose his balance and fall down. The bigger kids had a blast trying out David's new casting pole. And I just enjoyed the sun on my face. What a blessing from God to be able to go out on the water and enjoy the beauty around us.

Last day of VBS

Rachel did a great job this year preparing for our VBS. She was well prepared for every night and has taken some great pictures of our kids. Go to her web page if you want to see them. I am so thankful Rachel was willing to prepare and I am looking forward to next year.
Thanks Rachel for all your work.

Just For Bruce!!

So Bruce was giving me a hard time about not updating my blog. So this update is just for him.

Not much going on in the Paden family. Just enduring the rain and trying to keep my sanity. That is sometimes hard when you have 5 kids. One day at a time and I keep reminding myself that "Tomorrow is a new day, with no mistakes in it."

VBS is this week and I am in charge of the snack station. Things are going great. Monday night we had 32 kids, last night we had 48. (To bad Bruce is not here because I think he would be getting the pie.) Two more nights of fun to go.

One thing that came out of VBS is I met one of my sister Sara's friends from Ketchikan. Her name is Angie Stromberg. That was encouraging. She has been here for 2 years and lives just behind the church building. She has 3 children and they all seem to be really enjoying VBS.

Well I will try to post pictures later. It is so encouraging to hear from my friends and family so please continue to leave me your comments. Gods Blessings to all.

Beautiful Day in Juneau!!!

The weather in Juneau this summer has not been the best to brag about. This week has been a wonderful week for the weather. The sun has been out and we made it to 71 yesterday. So I guess you could say we are having a heat wave. Monday I walked to Udder Culture with Rachel Phelps & Beth Vaughn, we had a wonderful visit. Tuesday I walked to Safeway with my boys and returned some movies. Today I went to the Glacier with Katie and the little boys for some fun in the sun, a little sand and water. Great combination if you happen to be of the age of 1 and 3. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Matthias' little curls. Not as much as the other boys had, but enough to make Mom happy.

Saying Goodbye to Our Miss Angie

Miss Angie holding Isaac Phelps
October 2007
As long as I can remember Miss Angie has always sat behind us in church. She has smiled at our children and gave them little items to help keep them entertained. She was always ready with open arms for a hug and a big smile. It didn't matter how much pain she was in she still put a smile on her face. Today we say goodbye to a wonderful Godly woman and a great example of Christ. Miss Angie will be greatly missed and this world will not be the same.
However I know that we will see her again and when I do get to Heaven I know that our dear sweet Angie will be one of the smiling faces that will welcome me with loving arms.
Please pray for the Long family and many friends as they are saddened by the lose of Angie.
